Northeast Region Evaluated Exercise – 4-8 Nov 2020

Northeast Region will be conducting an Air Force Evaluated Exercise from 4-8 November. We are looking to see what members are available for tasking on those days. In addition, there will be Ground Team training on 7 November in conjunction with this exercise.

Evaluated Exercise:
Sign-up: Section 1 of sign-up form
Location: Alert from home. Instructions will be received in the alert.
Date/Time: 4-8 Nov as tasked by NER within the period you signed up for.
UOD: Appropriate uniform for task – ABU with cold-weather gear for Ground Team or Mission Base, Flight Suit for Aircrew
Equipment: Full equipment for task – 24-hr pack for Ground Team
Qualifications: GES (Required), Must be in at least trainee status for given area training for (ex. GTM3(T) for Ground Team, MS(T) for Aircrew, MSA(T) or MRO(T) for Mission Base)
Documentation: CAPID, 101 Card, and CAPF 161 on person

Ground Team Training:

The Orange County Cadet Squadron is pleased to welcome

Dr. Harry Shaw

Engineer, Space Communications

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center

October 27, 2020

In his presentation, Dr. Shaw will discuss his work in Space Communications for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.  He will cover NASA’s space network and how that works, his research within the network, NASA communications programs and advancements. He will also discuss the NASA internship program and his role as a mentor.  A question and answer session will conclude the presentation.

About Dr. Shaw

Dr. Shaw has over 30 years of experience in technology development, computer networking, information theory, microelectronics and space communications, mission planning and proposal development.  He holds two patents:

    • US 8,898,479 B2 11/25/2014 – Integrated Genomic and Proteomic Security Protocol
    • US 6,445,861 B1 9/3/2002 – Sol-Gel Processing to Form Doped

Ground Team Training – 24 October 2020

Date: Saturday, 24 October 2020
Time: 0900-1630 (Staff 0800-1700)
UOD: ABU with cold-weather outerwear
CONOPS: The purpose of this training day will be to qualify Ground Team Leaders. Ground Team Members will have the opportunity to train with the Ground Team Leaders being evaluated and will receive sign-offs as possible.
Equipment:
– Required: Water (1 quart), lunch
– Recommended: Complete 24 hour pack
Qualifications:
– Required: General Emergency Services
– Recommended: Ground Team Member Level 3 or UDF Team Trainee (minimum)
Documentation:

Food Distribution in Sullivan County 10/16/20

On Friday 16 October 2020, Sullivan County Cadet Squadron will be conducting a Disaster Relief mission performing distribution of food to needy families in Monticello, NY.

Full details of the mission are as follows:

Date/Time: Friday, 16 October 2020 – 1200-1500 (note – usually ends very early)

Location: Action Toward Independence, 309 E Broadway, Monticello, NY 12701 (Link for Directions)

Participation Requirements: Qualified GES

Uniform: ABU with Reflective Vest (Cadets), ABU/Corporate Equivalent with Reflective Vest (Seniors)

Equipment Requirements: Bring a mask, water, and a snack

Paperwork Requirements: For cadets that have not previously participated in this mission, CAPF 60-80. For all members, CAPF 101 and CAPF 161 on your person.

Health Screening Requirement: All members will undergo a health screening, including a contactless thermometer temperature reading and the following questionnaire. Please review the questionnaire prior to departing for the mission and do not participate if you cannot answer “no” to all questions.

2. Loss of smell or taste?

3. Muscle aches?

4. Sore throat?

5. Cough?

6. Shortness of breath?

7. Chills?

8. Headache?

10. Had contact with someone diagnosed with or quarantined for COVID-19?

11. Have you been asked to self-isolate or quarantine by a medical professional?
