NASA Mars Perseverance Lander

Details:
NASA TV is covering the Mars Perseverance lander landing on Mars this afternoon.  This is the largest, most complex spacecraft ever sent to Mars, and even has its own helicopter drone!

This lander is also the first to have sound.  Microphones will capture the sounds of entry, descent, and landing (EDL), and the exploration of the surface.

Radios waves take 13.5 minutes to travel from Mars to Earth, so there is no live feed from Mars, but there will be live updates from NASA facilities as the spacecraft approaches and lands. It is estimated to land at 3:55pm EST.

Guest Speaker – 23 February 2021

The Orange County Cadet Squadron is pleased to welcome Dr. Alison Chalker Air Race Classic Pilot Member of the 99s. Alison Chalker (Moorestown, NJ) has been a pilot since 1990, and is a member of Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of The Ninety-Nines.

She has a Commercial pilot’s license, single-engine land, with an instrument rating, complex, high-performance and tailwheel endorsements.

Alison is a general aviation pilot who flies for fun and has more than 1500 hours flown. She has a four seat single engine Cessna 182, and enjoys flying to meet friends for lunch around the East coast region; taking passengers for airplane rides to raise funds for the Chapter scholarships in our annual Pennies-a-Pound event; and flying her husband Ray and dogs Einstein and Piper to visit friends and family around the country.

Her favorite aviation activity is the Air Race Classic. In this annual adventure, teams of two women fly a four day, 2000 nautical mile cross-country route that is different every year, competing against their own handicap.

Alison works in the pharmaceutical industry and moved to the US from the UK in 1996. Over the last 30 years, she has worked with teams to help develop new drugs for infectious diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and neuropsychiatric illnesses.

Her local 99’s chapter will also be in attendance!

Please come prepared with questions and have your camera on.

Description:

Please join us when Captain Kristin “Beo” Wolfe, commander and demonstration pilot for the U.S. Air Force F-35A Demonstration Team, gives us an inside look at this unmatched fifth-generation fighter. The F-35A Lightning II is without question the most capable multirole fighter aircraft in the world, combining stealth, sensor fusion, and unmatched situational awareness.  Currently operational or scheduled for operation with the U.S. and a dozen allied nations, the F-35 will be the backbone of these air forces for decades to come.

Capt Wolfe is a 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Prior to her current assignment, she was an instructor in the F-22 Raptor, the only other operational fifth-generation fighter.  Be sure to take this opportunity to hear what it takes to fly these two amazing aircraft, along with how Capt Wolfe achieved her dream of becoming a fighter pilot.
