Ground Team ES Familiarization Exercise on Nov 10

On Saturday, November 10th, the squadron is doing a Ground Team Familiarization and conditioning exercise in Harriman State Park. We’ll hike up to Stockbridge shelter for lunch and classes.  Please make sure to have appropriate clothing for the weather. 

Details are as follows:

What to bring:

  • lunch, snacks
  • 2 qts of water minimum
  • hat, gloves, and layers are highly suggested
  • 24 hour pack if you have one, if not, bring what you have

Weekend Training Opportunity

All,

The following training is available this weekend.  You’ll need to have your Curry award and GES online training done (see this website under Training/101 Card) to participate.  The squadron has 24 hour packs you can use for GTM3 training.  Contact 1st Lt Gessman at gessmanj@gmail.com or 845-337-9016 for more information.

1. Initial GTM3 training [F/P]:  SAT 1200-1630 at MGJ Orange County Airport.  Members with GES may report at that time with gear listed below to obtain GTM3 Fam/Prep training.  No deployment off-airport will occur.  F/P training does not count toward mission participation, but anyone with GES and the required equipment may participate.There may be additional, post-F/P GTM3 training available on SUN.  You will be advised if this is scheduled.  Hunting season starts this weekend, and we are trying to find a suitable spot away from hunting areas.

Equipment needed:  24 hour pack, notebook, pen/pencil, plus snacks and drinks.  The only food source at MGJ is limited vending machines.  There are local area restaurants, but travel to/from would be required.

2. Aircrew training:  SAT & SUN 0800-1630.  Training will be conducted based on member need and WX.  Contact NY413/CC Maj Larry Wenz at commander@cap-ny413.org if planning to attend aircrew training.

3. Mission base training:  Available SAT & SUN at SEG, HPN Westchester County Airport, White Plains beginning at 0800.  Members must notify group through chain of command if going to HPN, so we can notify SEG.

 

West Point Tour and Parade

On Saturday, November 3rd, we’ve been invited to West Point to watch a Cadet Review parade before the Army/Air Force football game. One of the time honored traditions of an Army West Point game day, a full-dress cadet parade takes place on “The Plain” three hours to kickoff (weather permitting) for every home game. A tour by a West Point and CAP Spaatz Cadet will follow. Family members and friends are welcome to attend as well.

Time: Parade starts at 0900, meeting time to be determined. Event will run to approximately noon.

Operation Slumber: Trip to the Intrepid

Squadron and Parents,

Catskill Mountain Group will be participating in a “Night at the Museum” overnight trip to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Complex in New York City on the weekend of December 1st – 2nd. We’ll be sleeping in the Intrepid’s Great Hall with floor-to-ceiling views of the Hudson. The museum provides cots, but each participant will need to bring a sleeping bag or blanket and pillow. Everyone will receive a T-shirt and a voucher to return within the next sixty days (or re-enter the museum on Dec 2nd). Family members and friends are welcome to attend as well, however younger siblings must be at least 6 yrs old. Throughout the night there will be:

  • Flash-Light Guided Tours
  • Unlimited Simulator Rides
  • Inflatable Planetarium
  • Self-guided Tours of the Growler Submarine
  • Explore the Intrepid’s Captain and Navigation Bridge
