ES Training Opportunity – 2019 National Emergency Services Academy

Members interested in furthering your emergency services training and developing new skills, the application process for the 2019 National Emergency Services Academy (NESA) is now open. NESA is held in Camp Atterbury, Indiana across two sessions – 14-20 July and 21-27 July – and consists of three schools – Ground Search and Rescue School, Mission Aircrew School, and Incident Command System School. Other shorter courses are also held during the school, including an sUAS Course, a Wilderness Advanced First Aid Course, Aircrew Survival, and numerous other courses.

The cost for a full week course is $190, and short courses are $95. There are some scholarships available through NESA.

ES Training Opportunity – May NY Wing TRAEX

The NY Wing May TRAEX is scheduled for 4-5 May 2019. Catskill Mountain Group will be hosting a staging area. We are looking to see who is interested in attending.

There are several areas open for training. You must be in trainee status prior to signing in for the mission. If you need pre-qualification tasks in order to be placed in trainee status, an evaluator may be available with advanced notice for Ground Team, MRO, and MSA. You must notify me ASAP if you need to complete pre-qualification tasks.

Winter Ranger School at Hawk Mountain

Registration is now open for Hawk Mountain Ranger School’s Winter Ranger School 2019

Winter Ranger School is designed to prepare Emergency Services, CAP Aircrew, and Ranger Team members for operations and survival situations in cold weather environments for up to 72 hours.  There are four course options available depending on each individual’s experience.
 

CONDITIONS: There are no buildings to house students.  All students will be spending the duration of the school outdoors, regardless of weather conditions.  Due to limited utilities during the winter, food and water will not be provided nor available at the school; you are responsible and must pack accordingly.  Due to the nature of the school, all students must be PHYSICAL CATEGORY 1 as defined by CAPP 52-18. CAP UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) Program

Our squadron will be starting a CAP UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) program early next year. Our goal is to train cadets and senior members to use drones in Emergency Services missions and to help members get their Part 107 UAS license.

Cadets:  To be a part of this program as a cadet, you must be a member of the AMA (Association of Model Aeronautics). We’re forming a squadron AMA club where cadets can join for free. If you’re interested in this program, please use the form below to provide information for your AMA membership.

Ground Team ES Familiarization Exercise on Nov 10

On Saturday, November 10th, the squadron is doing a Ground Team Familiarization and conditioning exercise in Harriman State Park. We’ll hike up to Stockbridge shelter for lunch and classes.  Please make sure to have appropriate clothing for the weather.

Weekend Training Opportunity

All,

The following training is available this weekend.  You’ll need to have your Curry award and GES online training done (see this website under Training/101 Card) to participate.  The squadron has 24 hour packs you can use for GTM3 training.  Contact 1st Lt Gessman at gessmanj@gmail.com or 845-337-9016 for more information.

1. Initial GTM3 training [F/P]:  SAT 1200-1630 at MGJ Orange County Airport.  Members with GES may report at that time with gear listed below to obtain GTM3 Fam/Prep training.  No deployment off-airport will occur.  F/P training does not count toward mission participation, but anyone with GES and the required equipment may participate.There may be additional, post-F/P GTM3 training available on SUN.  You will be advised if this is scheduled.  Hunting season starts this weekend, and we are trying to find a suitable spot away from hunting areas.

Equipment needed:  24 hour pack, notebook, pen/pencil, plus snacks and drinks.  The only food source at MGJ is limited vending machines.  There are local area restaurants, but travel to/from would be required.

2. Aircrew training:  SAT & SUN 0800-1630.  Training will be conducted based on member need and WX.  Contact NY413/CC Maj Larry Wenz at commander@cap-ny413.org if planning to attend aircrew training.

3. Mission base training:  Available SAT & SUN at SEG, HPN Westchester County Airport, White Plains beginning at 0800.  Members must notify group through chain of command if going to HPN, so we can notify SEG.

Description of Training

Training will be available for ground search and rescue tasks (GTM 3, 2, and 1), mission base staff assistant (MSA), and radio operator (MRO), as well as other areas. There will be a skills evaluator at the squadron meeting on Tuesday to assist those members who need tasks completed to be placed in trainee status.

DESCRIPTION
Mid-Eastern group will be hosting an Emergency Services Training School at a long weekend Bivouac from Thursday to Sunday 9 to 12 August 2018.
We will be training GTM 3 through GBD; MSO, MRO and MSA
·      Basic, intermediate & advanced training
·      GT 1-3, MRO, MSA, GND, MSO, UDF, PSC, OSC
·      Pre-qualified cadets and seniors welcome!
·      SAR exercises, ELT searches, & specialized training
·      Minimum requirements:  GES 116, 117 Parts 1&3
·      GTM need 24 or 72 hour gear
·      Full Mission Base on-site with training up to OSC
As long as you have your Commander’s approval in e-services before the start of the bivouac, you may sign up now!
COSTS
If you are looking to get a jump start on your ES qualifications or renew a speciality, this is the event to attend. Although this online pre-registration is free, there is a $5 per day fee* for this event plus the cost of food. Bottled water is included in the base fee.
MEALS
If you attend from Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon and you want to enjoy our catered meals, the total cost* is $61. A worksheet listing all costs will be e-mailed to you upon registration, but you may e-mail < majorsueneal@aol.com > to have one sent to you ahead of registering. You may bring meals to the site, but no refrigeration or cooking facilities are available.
LOCATION
Our location has changed since last year. We will have port-a-johns and cold water shower tents for facilities. Please plan accordingly.
